Unit Study: Winter Solstice
We used Blossom Root's "book seed" based on the book called Sun Bread, by Elisa Kleven to learn about the winter solstice. We read Sun Bread, as well as several other books about the winter solstice, and did a variety of solstice related activities. Here are a few highlights from the week. We created a model with a piece of fruit and a flashlight to demonstrate how the earth tilts on its axis, and how this changes the light from the sun throughout the seasons. We also created paper bag lanterns to use on the the longest night of the year. And finally, we finished off our week by making our own sun bread, inspired by the book.
