Field Trip: American Revolution in Philadelphia

Recently, we were in Philadelphia for the day, and since we learned about the American Revolution, we decided to take advantage of our trip, and do some sightseeing. We started off with a tour of Independence Hall. The tour is free, and only takes about 20 minutes, which was just the right length for us. It was really awe-inspiring to be in the actual place that the Declaration of Independence was signed.

We learned that most of the furniture in the room are replicas, but the chair you see at the front of the room is the actual, original chair that George Washington sat in.

After the tour, we walked a few blocks to the Museum of the American Revolution. The neat thing about this museum is the children's Discovery Center that is open on the weekends.  There were opportunities to dress up in colonial era clothing.

We explored this interactive exhibit that shared information about trade during the colonial times.

There was also a craft corner, where the girls made their own Hessian soldier caps.

We also visited a large ship in one of the exhibits, though at this point, we were running out of time and couldn't explore it as much as we would like.

We finished up our time at the museum watching a short film about George Washington's war tent. At the end of the video, the screen rolled up to reveal the actual tent.
