Recently, we joined some other homeschool families at the Trout Gallery for a workshop on printing, with a focus on Italy. We explored some of the geography and culture of Italy, then visited an exhibit filled with printmaking artwork. Our guide took some time to explain various methods of printmaking. We then spent some time focusing on a particular print, depicting a scene in Venice.
We then had the chance to try making our own prints. The students etched their designs into styrofoam, used rollers to apply paint to their designs, and then pressed them onto paper.
We were able to bring home our papers and our styrofoam prints, so we can make more if we'd like to. I'm also eyeing up the styrofoam takeout boxes in the refrigerator, as I'd like to try making my own prints as well. Could be a great opportunity for us to recycle and make art at the same time!
