Living Room Makeover

I recently received a gift card for Joann’s, which got me super excited, because I love fabric, but I hate spending money. So I decided to re-decorate the living room, because I wasn’t really satisfied with the way it looked, which is pretty understandable because I basically just threw a bunch of stuff in there and hoped it looked good together. That’s what happens when you have limited resources.

This is what it looked like.

This is not the most recent "before" picture. We also had a director chair in the corner (which you’ll see later), beige curtains, and a beige kilim rug given to us by Judah’s aunt (you’ll also see the rug later).

So I didn’t do a whole lot for this “makeover.” I pretty much just made curtains and pillow covers. I made back-tab curtains using this tutorial, except I didn’t add a lining. I made the pillow covers using this tutorial, which I’ve used countless times in the past. Seriously, being able to sew your own pillows is so freeing. You can choose exactly which fabric or color scheme suits your needs without having to worry whether or not you can find it in stores. So anyway, here’s what it looks like now!

It’s a much more cohesive look, but still fun and colorful. We’re renting, so we can’t paint our beige walls, and we were given beige couches and a beige rug, so I wanted something that would break up the beige.

Here’s a close-up of the pillows.

Some of the pillows were solid pieces of fabric, and some were different fabrics pieced together.

It’s hard to pick my favorite. But here’s the great part about these pillows. They slip on and off easily, so you can wash them!
