Run, Run, Run, As Fast As You Can

Full disclosure: this post unfortunately has nothing to do with gingerbread.

Now that we’ve gotten that cleared, I’d like to tell you something. If you know me even a little, this will probably surprise you.

This week, I started running.

WHAAAAAT?!?!

Yes, I ran this week. Twice, actually.

Several times in our three years of marriage, Judah has asked me if I was interested in doing a couch-to-5K program. The answer has always been “no.” I hate running. I remember running around in circles in high school gym class, in the smelly gymnasium, with awful music, and stupid teenage boys oggling my bouncing butt and chest as they ran by. Of course I hated running!

But this time, when Judah asked me, I decided to say “yes” without too much thought. I knew if I thought about it, I’d say no. And once I say yes, I don’t like to go back on my word.

So that lead me to running around the block with him on Tuesday. And I had to admit that it wasn’t that bad. We found an app (this one) that maps out our training schedule. You listen to it while running, and it tells you when to run and when to walk. You can even listen to your own music while doing it.

So this morning, I ran again, all by myself. And it was AWESOME!!!!! I never understood those people who say they love running. I was always like, “Fine, you take the running, I’ll just have cake.” But wow, running is awesome! I don’t know if it was the music, or the endorphins, but I just wanted to dance down the street and wave to everyone. So I guess it’s time to eat my words and admit that running isn’t awful. But I might still eat cake too.

Also, because he’s awesome, Judah got us those armband phone holder thingies, which is great, because I went for a walk with a friend yesterday, and I left my phone in my back pocket. Apparently, it was on the whole time and now I have 236 photos and 2 videos of the inside of my back pocket. Yay.

  1. This is an awesome post and I am inspired! I've been makong a concerted effort to go for walks regularly - brisk walks - and my body loves me for it. ...when I stick with the program. Maybe I'll work my way up to running. I guess I need to join the 21st century and get a smart phone so I can use one of those apps. I love the intervals idea!
    Thanks for sharing, Jane!
