Recent Crafts (and My Apparent Obsession with Bows)
Last week, I wrote about how my best friend just moved to China, and I mentioned that I was coping by throwing myself into various crafts. So I figured this week, I’d show you what I’ve been up to.
First, I made a dress. Judah and I had gone to the thrift store to get him some pants for doing field work for his job, and I can never resist taking a peek in the women’s section. I found this skirt, and fell in love with the colors.
Obviously, it’s too big. But I thought I could easily make it into a tunic or dress using this tutorial. I had to make a few modifications, because I forgot to take into account that my hips are bigger than the woman who did the tutorial, but once I got that sorted out, it was really easy to make. Here’s the finished product:
Super cute, and super comfy. I want to make about 100 more of these.
Also, as you can see in the picture, my hair is in a bun. This may be the first time you’ve seen my hair in a bun. I’m not sure if I’m ashamed or proud to say this, but at age 25, I’ve finally mastered the art of the bun. I can do it on other people, but I’ve never been able to put my own hair in a bun. Maybe it’s too thick, too straight, too silky… I don’t know, but it always falls out. But I’m finally able to wear my hair in a bun now! Go me. And because I obsess over things like this, I immediately made a bunch of bows to wear with my bun, using this tutorial.
I love making my own pillow covers, and I always use this tutorial for removable covers so I can easily switch them when I want to. For these bow pillows, I made the removable covers for my rectangular pillow forms, and then made a loop of fabric for the middle of the bow. Honestly, the hardest part was squeezing that loop onto the pillow.
So those are (some of the) crafts I’ve been working on. Un-bow-lievable, right?
Ok, I’m now making horrible bow puns. It’s time to stop.

The only difference is that I used fusible bonding web instead of stitching the edges on my machine. You can do either; I just preferred the stitchless look.
Also, because apparently I’m obsessed with bows this week, I made some new pillow covers for my living room.
