Monday Makings: Printable Birth Affirmations
I've decided to start a new blog series, called "Monday Makings." Basically, on Mondays, I will post something that I've made recently, whether it's a craft, food, quilt, or something else. I might post something else on other days of the week, but Monday Makings is about encouraging and celebrating creativity, in my own life, and hopefully in yours too. I might not post every Monday, especially with the impending birth of my first baby, but I'll do the best I can.
Speaking of babies...
For my first Monday Makings, I'll share with you the "birth affirmations" that I made. Since this is my first baby, obviously I've never given birth before, and that can be a little nervewracking. I've been doing a lot of research, because I firmly believe in the power of education. I'm finding that birth doesn't have to be the horrific, painful, scream-filled experiences that you see in movies. And no, this is NOT an invitation for you to tell me your aunt's cousin's mom's nephew's wife's birthing horror story. Certainly there are birthing horror stories out there, but birth doesn't need to be horrible for every mom. These stories only succeed in making new mothers afraid of something that their bodies were actually made to do. And fear in the labor room is only going to make a mother more tense, which can only lead to more pain. I mean, honestly, we all know where fear gets us.
"Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering."
*mic drop*
Thanks, Yoda.
Side note: This principle applies to more than just Jedi and birthing moms. We all need to remember this right now, especially in light of last week's violence and hatred.
Anyway, I'm still nervous about childbirth, but I've decided I'm going to approach it without fear. There are entire philosophies and schools of thought that focus on mind over matter, Hypnobirthing for example, that have been really helpful to me. These types of philosophies focus on relaxation, visualizations, and affirmations. The more I researched, the more I realized how closely this related to my faith as a Christian. Instead of living in fear, I can choose to trust God, be courageous, and dwell on the miracle that my body is performing.
Being a visual person, I decided to write some birth affirmations and make them pretty, so I actually enjoy looking at them! And I also decided that I would share them with you, dear readers! You know, just in case you're having a baby. Although, not all of these are birth-related, so feel free to print some even if you're not having a baby. In case you're wondering, I did not create the beautiful watercolor graphics. You can download them here from Angie Makes!
