Monday Makings: DIY Paper Leaf Wreath

I don't know about you, but I'm a little obsessed with seasonal decor, and this time of year is when I start feeling a bit glum about it. I go crazy with decorating for autumn, winter and Christmas, Valentine's Day, and Easter, but after that... well, now what? I've had my spring wreath out for a while, and I'm ready for a new one, but it's way too early for a summer wreath. I know, first world problems. So, I decided to make a new one using only materials that I already had.

Materials needed:
Cardboard (whatever size you want your wreath to be)
Scissors
Hot glue
Paper (your choice of colors or prints - you could even use old magazine or book pages!)

Step one: Trace two circles of your desired size on your cardboard and cut out (carefully!) to make a wreath form.

Step two: Cut out your leaves. Again, make them whatever size you want. Just remember, the smaller they are, the more you will need, and that's a lot of cutting! Mine were approximately an inch and a half long. Once I had cut one leaf that I liked the shape of, I traced it to make my other leaves. This is the most time consuming part of the process, although it is not difficult.

Step three: Fold all of your leaves in half.

Step four: Begin gluing your leaves on at a time, placing a small dot of hot glue gun where you want each leaf to go. I placed mine randomly, but you could also do a pattern if you want. Remember to overlap them to add more dimension to your wreath, and to hide the cardboard!

If needed, glue a small loop of ribbon to the back to hang your wreath. And now you're done! Here's a special shout out to my helper! Look how excited she was to watch me fold leaves...
