Monday Makings: Bathroom Makeover on a Budget
So we have this half-bath down in our basement. Up until recently, I referred to it as the "scary dungeon bathroom" and refused to use it. This was problematic at times, because our only other bathroom is right next to Pumpkin's bedroom, and I was reluctant to use it during her nap times, for fear of waking her up. So, we decided to finally get to work, and fix up the basement bathroom.
Here's what it looked like before.
See? Ooooooh scary dungeon bathroom! Judah had a few plumbing problems to fix, and I wanted to make the bathroom look a little brighter without spending too much money. As you can see, on the right, we have some folding doors covering our washer and dryer and the only window in the room. Also the bottom half of the wall is painted pink. So, that was a problem.
Here's what we decided to do.
We got a bright rug and hand towel from Target. I chose green to match the cactus artwork I hung on the walls. I found these adorable, free cactus printables here, here, and here. I chose pink and green artwork to tie in the pink walls with the green rug. We also found the mirror and picture frames at Salvation Army, all for under $12, which I was pretty excited about.
So there you have it. Is it the fanciest bathroom ever? Nope. But it's much nicer than it was, and now I actually feel comfortable using it. We've lived in this house for almost a year now, and we finally finished this bathroom. We're finding that owning a home is a mixed blessing. It's annoying to have to fix everything that breaks, but it's also really fun to make it your own, especially when you can do it on a budget!
