Because I'm a Grown Up

Because I'm a grown up...
I don’t have to go to school.
I have to go to work.
I technically don’t have to go to work, but I should because…
I have a steady income.
I have steady bills.
No one tells me to clean my room.
I have to clean my house.
I can eat ice cream for any meal that I choose.
My metabolism isn’t what it used to be.
I can have parties with my friends just for fun.
Birthdays aren’t as exciting as they used to be.

Because I'm a grown up...
I am responsible for my own well-being.
I am at least partially responsible for the well-being of others, such as my students.
I can watch TV, read a book, or play games for as long as I want to.
I must actively choose to manage my time wisely.
I’m better at some things, such as cooking, sewing, gardening, and driving.
I’m worse at some things, such as staying up late, being carefree, and touching my toes.
I don’t have a naptime anymore.
I don’t even have time for naps.
All I want to do is take a nap.

Because I'm a grown up...
I can make my own choices.
I am responsible for my actions.
I can stay out all night.
I like going to bed early.
I can live independently from my parents.
I miss my parents and wish I could spend more time with them.
I value my friends more than ever.
Many of my friends have chosen their own paths and live far away.
New, meaningful friendships are sometimes difficult to make.
I value my family above my own achievements.
