Our Little (Brick) Nest
So, last week, we bought a house.
Here it is.
Yes, the one in the middle with the overgrown jungle yard (on the plus side, there are several gorgeous rose bushes hiding in that jungle).
We're pretty excited and also a bit nervous. Being first time homeowners can be somewhat frightening. We were very fortunate to have an awesome realtor who went above and beyond the call of duty. Also, the guy from the bank was unbelievably awesome, too. (Seriously, if you live in the Harrisburg area and want to buy/sell a house, please ask me for their contact information, because they made the entire process go smoothly and quickly.) I've heard so many horror stories about buying a house, and this was nothing like that. Anyway, our realtor gave us this lovely pencil sketch of our first home.
So, we've spent the last week doing some major cleaning, and occasionally bringing a few things over to the new house and unpacking them. Naturally one of the first things to be unpacked and put away was our tea collection.
#priorities
We're also re-doing the bathroom. Thankfully, we have a half bath in the basement that we can use during the time being. Judah did some of the demolition beforehand, and my dad is here now working on it too. They are both super troopers and I love them.
Here are a few things that I have learned over the past few days:
1. Demolition is loud and scary. I took this picture at the beginning of the demo and I had no idea what was coming... All of you readers who have done home improvement projects are thinking, "Pshh, that's nothing!" I now know better.
2. It is absolutely crazy to try to renovate the bathroom and move in during the same weekend. But we did it anyway. We've done crazy things before, like move from RI to PA in two weeks, on the crest of a major blizzard. We are so incredibly grateful for family and friends who love us and are willing to help us out. We really could not have done this on our own.
3. Weather is insane and inconvenient. This might have been the first move we've ever had where it wasn't raining or snowing, but instead we had 90+ degree weather and disgusting humidity. Mind you, this month has been dismally cold and rainy until just a few days before our move.
4. Heat+pregnancy=swollen feet. And that is why I am sitting on the couch with my feet up now. Fortunately, they're only swollen a tiny little bit.
P.S. You just read the first blog post from the new house!
