Field Trip: Articles of Confederation Day

We went to a celebration of the adoption of the Articles of Confederation, hosted by the York County Historical Center, which tied in very nicely with our study of the American Revolution.

We attended a talk on the weaponry used during the Revolutionary War and saw a firing demonstration.

We also received a tour of a local, historic building.

We saw a fife and drum group perform.

We also got to help use a real printing press! The paper that the girls printed was not dry (the demonstrators informed us that they ink would take 36 hours to dry), so they took home some pre-printed papers.

Much to Pumpkin's delight, there was a demonstrator weaving some linen tape. Pumpkin and I had a long conversation with her, and she had a lot of helpful advice for wanting to learn how to weave.

Though I didn't get pictures, the girls tried on some historical clothing, played with some Revolution-era toys, and saw George Washington!
