China Trip Day 4: Ancient Culture Street and River Cruise
We started our day today with a bit of school work, before heading out to the Ancient Culture street, which is an area in the city that is filled with little shops, street food stands, and traditional Chinese architecture. It was very beautiful, and we ate lots of delicious food. We were also the only foreigners there, and drew quite a bit of attention. Many people wanted to take pictures of our family, or just the girls. Auntie E taught the girls the phrase "bu yao," which translates to "don't want."
We enjoyed a traditional Tianjin food, that is basically a mung bean pancake wrapped around some crispy fried things. The lady cooking this was really nice, and let the girls watch, and explained how she made it. Thankfully we had Auntie E with us to translate. We followed this up with some fried potstickers, which were also delicious.
After doing a bit of shopping, eating, and exploring, we went on a river cruise on the Haihe River.
After all the walking we had done, it was a very relaxing way to see the sights along the river. There were even more people wanting to take pictures with or of us. We chatted with a few people, sometimes using translation apps, and felt more comfortable taking photos with them. We enjoyed getting to know a little girl who was right around the girls' ages. Overall, it was really fun to do some tourist activities, but also a really eye opening cultural experience for our girls.
