Unit Study: Thailand
The final stop of our worldschooling adventure will be Thailand, so we spent some time learning about the country. Unfortunately, the library had very little options for books about Thailand, but here is what we found:
The Girl Who Wore Too Much: A Folktale from Thailand, by Margaret Read MacDonald
Peek: A Thai Hide and Seek, by Minfong Ho
Thailand, by Kristen Spanier
Thai Celebrations for Children, by Elaine Russell
Hot Thai Kitchen, by Pailin Chongchitnant
Hush: A Thai Lullaby, by Minfong Ho
The Floating Field: How a Group of Thai Boys Built Their Own Soccer Field, by Scott Riley
Bodhi Sees the World: Thailand, by Marisa Aragon Ware
We enjoyed reading several folktales from Thailand, as well as watching some videos about Thailand. As always, we enjoyed watching some videos from the Are We There Yet? World Adventure series. We took some time to read about Songkran, the Thai New Year, a holiday that involves a country-wide water fight, since we will be in Thailand during Songkran. We also watched another video from the Street Food: Asia docuseries on Netflix to get a feel for some common foods eaten in Thailand. It was nice to get some ideas of what Thailand will be like, and then be able to ask questions of the family members we will be visiting.
Unfortunately, we didn't do a whole lot of hands-on activities for this unit study (because we've been very busy getting ready for the actual trip!) so I don't have any pictures this time.
