Book Seed: A Rainbow of My Own
Several years ago, I purchased several "book seeds" from Blossom & Root, and we've been slowly working through them over the years. I always enjoy these when we need a homeschool pick-me-up, so when we hit a February slump, I decided it was time to pull out another book seed. This theme was based on A Rainbow of My Own, by Don Freeman, and took about two weeks to explore all the activities.
We learned about the science of rainbows, and created our own with a mirror and glass of water.
Here are the books we read:
A Rainbow of My Own, by Don Freeman
The Hidden Rainbow, by Christie Matheson
Rainbows, by Martha E.H. Rustad
Rainbow Shopping, by Qing Zhuang
Isabel and the Invisible World, by Alan Lightman
Colors in Spanish, by Daniel Nunn
Rain Before Rainbows, by Smriti Prasadam-Halls
Katie Woo and Pedro Mysteries: The Rainbow Mystery, by Fran Manushkin
Among many other activities, we experimented with mixing colors.
And of course, painted our own rainbows.
Overall, a unit study that involved chasing sunshine and embracing color was just what we needed at the end of winter!
Love this! Much needed with all of our gloomy days. Looking forward to sunshine and rainbows 😊🌈
