Language Study: Spanish

The bulk of our Spanish study is based on talkbox.mom, a subscription service that sends monthly (or less frequent) boxes with challenges to get you speaking the language immediately. There are posters, flashcards, labels, etc. The first box is called the snack box, and you can choose snack/kitchen related phrases to incorporate into daily life immediately, and then practice those phrases using the included app. What I really enjoy about this program is that it has gotten us using Spanish in small ways on a day-to-day basis. Another major plus is that it doesn't require screen usage. The major downside is the cost of the program, but we only ordered the first four months, and have been cycling through them. There is enough material that, at this age, we learn something new every time.

We've also tried to incorporate Spanish into our daily lives in other ways as well. For example, we wanted to be able to play one of our favorite board games in Spanish, so we learned how to count and say key vocab words in Spanish.

We also read books in Spanish when we can, and generally choose TV shows that include some Spanish. Our favorites have been Handy Manny, Alma's Way, and Rosie's Rules. We've also learned some songs in Spanish, including:

The Doxology
Los Pollitos
Pin Pon
Row, Row, Row Your Boat
John the Rabbit/Juan Conejo
De Colores
Feliz Navidad
El Coqui
Buenos Dias
