Life Skills: Food and Nutrition
What started out as lunchtime battles and exasperation turned into an excellent lesson on food and nutrition. We talked about different food groups, and the need to eat a wide variety of foods, and then I set the girls free to make their own lunches every day. We created a chart with some ideas to help them as they pack.
The girls know that they are expected to choose at least one protein and at least one fruit/vegetable. They have taken more ownership of their lunches, and I have had to fight fewer picky-eating battles. It's a win-win situation! Here is an example of a lunch Pumpkin packed herself.
