Puerto Rico Trip Day 3: Catamaran Tour and the Angelito Trail

In the morning, we went on a catamaran tour to the uninhabited island of Icacos. After about 45 minutes of sailing, we anchored at the beach of Icacos for some swimming. Pumpkin said she liked to bounce in the waves wearing her life jacket. The water was absolutely beautiful, and we also enjoyed walking along the beach and seeing an egret. The crew served a delicious lunch of make-your-own sandwiches, and they even had cookies. Some of the highlights were that the girls got to try their first pina coladas, and that Sweet Pea lost her first tooth! Then the boat anchored near a coral reef where we could go snorkeling. Unfortunately, the water was rather choppy. Pumpkin says "I did not like being splashed and getting water in my mouth." So, the girls returned to the boat with dad, while I had a turn snorkeling, and then dad and I switched places. It was our first time snorkeling, and was an amazing experience. I certainly hope to try it again in the future.  The girls enjoyed relaxing on the nets hanging off the front of the boat, and on the ride home, we even saw a manatee!

That afternoon, after a rest at home, we hiked the Angelito Trail to the Rio Mameyes. The hike itself was fairly easy, though a bit slippery in some spots. When we arrived at the river, we found that it was not too crowded, probably because it wasn't very hot. It was late enough in the day that we were completely shaded from the sun by the trees. There were many small pools and tiny waterfalls that were easy to explore, as well as many friendly fish, which we later found out were Mountain Mullet. Pumpkin was very eager to explore as much of the river as possible. She says, "we even found a flat rock to use as a fishy stage."

After returning home, we were very tired and decided to have a quiet dinner of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at home. We also spent some time exploring the backyard of our Airbnb and enjoyed the beautiful views of the rainforest.

To conclude this post, I'll share a video I took on the Angelito Trail so you can hear the beautiful sounds of the rainforest.
