Story Prompt: Time Machine (Daisy Diplodocus)
Here is a story prompt I gave to Pumpkin, followed by her response.
Once upon a time, two friends were walking home from school and found a time machine…
Ella and Liza got into a box, and then Liza pressed a button. Then a bright light flashed. When the light faded, they were in a place with plants, but no houses.
“I think we’re in the past,” Ella said.
“Yeah,” said Liza, “I see a diplodocus!”
The diplodocus looked at them.
“Hello, I’m Daisy,” she said. “Would you like a ride?”
“Yes, we would,” Ella and Liza said together.
“Then climb onto my head,” she said, and lowered her long neck.
Ella and Liza climbed on, and Daisy’s head went up. Daisy walked around and said, “I eat the leaves on these trees. They’re yummy. I live with my little ones. They’re right here.”
And she brought them to a nest. Two little baby diplodocuses were there.
“That’s Danny, and that’s Donut,” Daisy said. “They like to play. Would you like to play with them?”
“Do you like playing tag?” Donut asked.
“Yeah, we do!” said Liza.
“Do you like to play instruments?” asked Ella.
“Oh yeah,” said Danny.
So, Donut and Liza played tag, and Ella and Danny played instruments.
“It’s snack time, little ones!” said Daisy.
Danny and Donut looked up and said, “but we’re having so much fun!”
“But we can have your favorite leaves,” Daisy said.
“Oh yeah!” they said, “leaf quesadillas!”
Ella and Liza looked at each other.
“Did you say you eat leaves? We brought some spinach,” they said.
“Ooh, spinach! Is that a kind of leaf?” asked Donut.
“Yeah!” said Liza.
“We could put them in leaf quesadillas,” said Ella.
Then they all made spinach leaf quesadillas.
“Mmm, they’re my new favorite,” said Donut and Danny together.
“Wait, how do you grow them?” asked Danny.
“With these seeds!” Ella and Liza said together. Then Liza looked at her watch.
“Oh no, it’s getting late. Can you take us back to the time machine, Daisy?” Ella asked.
“Yeah, my watch says it’s five o’clock!” said Liza.
Daisy took them back to the time machine.
“Ella, it’s your turn to press the button,” Liza said. “I did it last time.”
The bright light flashed, and when the light faded, they were in the box outside their house.
The End
